Personalized Reference Service for Cancer Patients

The cancer care team at the Shaw Regional Cancer Center understands that being a patient, caregiver or family member can generate a lot of questions and information needs. The library seeks to empower patients, their caregivers and the public with comprehensive, up-to-date medical information in order to facilitate educated and informed health care decisions.  The library also seeks to provide medical professionals within the community with appropriate medical information in order to assist in the care of patients.  The library is a full-service library covering all aspects of cancer and other general medical topics.  The library also seeks to reach the Spanish speaking community by providing resources in Spanish.  The library provides personalized reference services to all members of the public as well as healthcare professionals from our mountain regions.  The library has a large lending collection of books and audiovisual materials as well as over 300 journal subscriptions.

The library was brought into existence in 2001 with a generous donation from the Women's Cancer Coalition.  The library is entirely funded by grants and donations, with the majority of grant funds coming from the Women's Cancer Coalition.  Please feel free to come in and visit the library or call if you would like more information.

All of the web sites and other medical information sources have been researched and validated by The Shaw Regional Cancer Center medical and professional staff to ensure that the best information is available.

Books and audio/visual materials, database searching, free pamphlets, journal collections, Interlibrary Loans, and Spanish materials can also be checked out in person.
