Library - Online Databases

Many types of information in multiple formats are available in the Library located in the Shaw Regional Cancer Center.  If you are looking for something specific and cannot find it, please ask the librarian.  Databases are an electronic index to journal and magazine literature and may be accessed from the Library and in some cases from home (please ask).  If you need assistance searching, please do not hesitate to ask.  Personalized research and reference work can also be done, please feel free to ask the librarian for any further information you may need.
 
Up to Date 

One-stop-shopping for point of care answers to clinical questions.  Written and updated by physicians, this database is great for healthcare professionals.  You will find a drug interactions tool, and very complete monographs on conditions and diseases that are very well referenced, evidence based and updated on a regular basis.  You will need to be on a VVMC Campus to use this resource, please call the Library if you have any questions 970-569-7607.

Micromedex 

The premier database for locating drug information and patient education materials.  Access is  available through the internet, and you may also search Micromedex from home!  You need no user name or pasword if you are on a VVMC Campus, if you would like to search from home, please call the library.  Please call the Library if you have any questions 970-569-7607.

MedLine

The largest medical database in the world.  The database mainly consists of journal articles from the professional medical literature. Very easy to use, a username and password is required which can be obtained by hospital employees and affiliates by calling the Library at 970-569-7607 or the Help Desk at 970-479-7254.

Lexi-Comp

This drug database contains concise drug information monographs designed to provide practical and useful information to the busy healthcare practitioner.  The database is a compilation of all 10 of the Lexicomp manuals and is updated continuously.  Lexicomp Online also provides information on drug-drug interactions and IV compatibility.  Customizable patient information leaflets are easily generated for both adult and pediatric patients and are available in many languages.  There is a searchable drug identification database complete with images and imprint information.  The main page of the database also offers access to up-to-date FDA information on drugs, as well as various newsletters and other features. The database is very user friendly and when using the product at the VVMC campus, no username and password is required.  When using the product outside of the main VVMC campus a username and password is required which can be obtained by hospital employees and affiliates by calling the Library at 970-569-7607 or the Help Desk at 970-479-7254.

Natural Standard

Natural Standard is an evidence based database of natural products.  Very easy to use, look up natural products to find information about them as well as links to the literature.  You can also find interactions information for thousands of natural products.  You may also look up how various conditions are treated with natural and supplemental products.  Also included is this very comprehensive database is an extensive list of product ingredients for hundreds of combination natural products.  Access is for all individuals located on a VVMC campus.  If you have questions please call the Library 970-569-7607.

Health and Wellness ResourceCenter

Consumer health and wellness information from journals and magazines mostly geared toward the health consumer.  Full text is available for many of the records and you may print from the library.  A username and password is required which can be obtained by hospital employees and affiliates by calling the Library at 970-569-7607 or the Help Desk at 970-479-7254. Access provided by the Eagle Valley Library District.

Toxnet

TOXNET (TOXicology Data NETwork) is a cluster of databases covering toxicology, hazardous chemicals, environmental health and related areas. It is managed by the Toxicology and Environmental Health Information Program (TEHIP) in the Division of Specialized Information Services (SIS) of the National Library of Medicine (NLM). TOXNET provides free access to and easy searching of databases with topics including: hazardous substances, carcinogens, common toxic substances, including household chemicals and cleaners, and drugs and lacatating mothers.
