I am the Lead Radiation Therapist and Certified Medical Dosimetrist at the Shaw Regional Cancer Center. I began my training as an EMT at Orange Coast College in 1987, and received my Bachelor’s of Science degree in Health Science Radiation Therapy at California State University at Long Beach in 1994. I did my clinical rotations at five centers; UCLA, UC Irvine, Long Beach Memorial, Hoag Hospital and Kaiser Permanente. In 1995, I also received a Massage Therapy Certification. Most recently in 2004, I completed my education for and was certified as a medical dosimetrist. I came to the Shaw Regional Cancer Center after being with a physician’s group as a radiation therapist for six years. I came to the Shaw as a traveling therapist and was so impressed that I took the permanent position.
I am one of your staff Radiation Therapists at the Shaw Regional Cancer Center. I began my training at Mesa State College in Grand Junction, and became a member of ARRT in Diagnostic Radiology in 1983. I then attended the Community College of Denver and received my certificate in Radiation Therapy and became a member of ARRT in Radiation Therapy in 1988. From 1988-1997 I was on staff at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, CO as a staff Radiation Therapist. I came to the Shaw at the opening of the center in 2001 with many years of experience. back to top
I am the Cancer Center’s medical physicist. Certified by American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic and Diagnostic Radiological Physics, I earned undergraduate degrees in Mathematics & Statistics and Engineering Physics from Miami University and a graduate degree in Medical Physics from University of Cincinnati. I came to Vail from Cincinnati where I was also a medical physicist consultant. I have been with the cancer center since 2004. I focus on guaranteeing high quality radiation treatments to all who come the center. back to top
I am the social worker for the Shaw Regional Cancer Center. I earned my masters degree from Denver University, School of Social Work. I relocated to Vail from Denver where I worked in the health care community in the metropolitan area. I have been with the Shaw Regional Cancer Center, developing the support programs for patients since the Shaw’s opening. It has been my task to develop support programs and to offer support to pateints on a one-to-one level as well as family and group support. My focus is on helping patients find solutions to problems related to cancer treatment, ranging from emotional to financial issues and everything in between. back to top I am the Oncology Pharmacist for the Shaw Regional Cancer Center. I earned my Doctorate of Pharmacy at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy. I completed a pharmacy practice residency at the University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics in Salt Lake City, Utah. Upon completion, I began working on the inpatient oncology and bone marrow transplant unit. I relocated to Eagle County in late 2005 and have been working for the Cancer Center since October of 2005. I meet with patients and their family on support care issues such as pain, nausea and vomiting, and side effects of chemotherapy. back to top I am the Registered Dietitian for the Shaw Regional Cancer Center. I earned my Bachelor of Science degree at Colorado State University with a major in Human Nutrition and Dietetics. Then, I completed a Dietetic Internship through the University of Northern Colorado while working and training at the University of Colorado. I started my career at Porter Hospital as the oncology dietitian for both outpatients and inpatients. I relocated to the Vail area in 2005 and have been working for the Cancer Center since March of 2005. I meet with patients and counsel them on nutritional issues in cancer care. back to top I am the tumor registrar at the Shaw. I began working in the medical field in 1994 and came from Arkansas where I was the tumor registrar for three years. I passed my Certified Tumor Registrar's exam in 2004, and moved to Vail for my current position in July of 2005 after doing contract work here at the Shaw. back to top
I am the cancer clinical trials coordinator at the Shaw. My previous employment experiences include working as a Certified Nurse's Aide and as a medical receptionist. I was eager to pursue a career in the medical field, and joined the Shaw team in November 2005, shortly after graduating from Regis University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology. back to top
I am the Oncology Pharmacy Technician. I am a native of Alabama and just recently moved to Colorado with my wife, Caroline, and daughter, Riley. I have a B.A. in Political Science and Public Administration from Western Kentucky University. I have been with the cancer center since November of 2006 and have enjoyed working here tremendously. back to top I completed my training in Radiation Therapy in New Zealand in 1972. I have worked in New Zealand, London England, and spent the last 32 years working in several centers in California, including UCLA, St John's Hospital in Santa Monica, and St Joseph's Medical Center, Burbank. I gained my ARRT certification in 1983, and in 1994 I became a Certified Medical Dosimetrist. Having worked in the field for nearly 4 decades, I have seen amazing improvements in the treatments and cure rates for cancer. I have trained many Student Radiation Therapists over the years, and enjoyed passing on my knowledge and experiences as well as emphasizing that they treat all patients as if they were their own family.
I was diagnosed with cancer in 1993 and was treated with surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. As a result feel I have a real understanding of what my patients are going through, and know I have helped many by sharing my diagnosis with them. I moved to Colorado in August 2007, fulfilling a dream of 15 years. I work part time so am able to enjoy exploring my new surroundings and all they have to offer. back to top
