Shaw Outreach Team

The Shaw Outreach Team is a volunteer organization that supports the patients and programs of the Shaw Regional Caner Center and Jack’s Place, a cancer caring house adjacent to the Shaw Regional Cancer Center, located in Edwards, Colorado.  The Shaw Outreach Team raises funds to support the continuing operations and capital requirements of the Shaw Regional Cancer Center.

Program Service Accomplishments

The Shaw Outreach Team has a commitment to use good-faith efforts to raise up to $100,000 per year for the operations of Jack’s Place, a cancer caring house adjacent to the Shaw Regional Cancer Center, located in Edwards, Colorado.  Jack’s Place provides overnight accommodations for cancer patients and their caregivers while they receive treatment at the Shaw Regional Cancer Center.  During fiscal year 2008, Jack’s Place provided 677 guest nights.

Jack’s Place also has programs that allow both patients and their caregivers to have a more supportive experience while staying there.  These programs include: yoga classes, support groups, nutritional cooking classes and cancer specific massage therapy sessions.  The vision of the Shaw Outreach Team is to make Jack’s Place a focal point for those touched by cancer to connect together in this therapeutic environment.

During fiscal year 2008, the Shaw Outreach Team launched a capital campaign with a goal of $2.6 million for the purchase and installation of a PET/CT scanner to be located at the Shaw Regional Cancer Center. The advanced technology of a PET/CT scanner provides physicians with the most sophisticated tool available today for making cancer diagnoses and determining delivery of treatment protocols with pinpoint accuracy.  It will support both the Shaw Regional Cancer Center’s medical and radiation oncology treatment programs including treatment planning, delivery, and follow-up care.
