Golden Aspen leaves on Beaver Creek Mountain serve as the perfect backdrop for Shaw Regional Cancer Center’s annual “Hike, Wine & Dine.”
In 2011, the 3rd annual event drew 300 participants and raised $50,000. “The community’s support was spectacular, and we were thrilled at the outcome,” comments volunteer event coordinator, Sue Franciose.
Proceeds from Hike, Wine & Dine benefit Jack’s Place, a Cancer Caring House and Shaw Regional Cancer Center. Named after Dr. Jack Eck, a longtime and beloved Vail-area doctor, Jack's Place provides safe, convenient, and comfortable day or overnight accommodations for caregivers, family members, and patients receiving treatment at Shaw Regional Cancer Center.
The event begins with registration accompanied by mimosas, coffee, and a light breakfast at the base of the Centennial Lift at Beaver Creek. Hikers then take to a meandering, golden-hued, easy 4-mile trail, along which they are treated to gourmet foods provided by local restaurants. Participants end the day with a wine reception, crab cakes, and dessert at the base of the mountain.
