The Shaw Regional Cancer Center is pleased to announce our new Fit for Survival program. Fit for Survival is an exercise program designed for any person with cancer or any survivor of cancer. The program is a comprehensive fitness program that begins by assessing your physical health. From that assessment an individualized program will be designed. Each patient’s program is carefully built to combat the negative side effects from cancer and treatment. Exercise has been shown to produce positive benefits in people undergoing treatment for cancer. Our exercise physiologist will build a program around you. In Fit for Survival you start slowly and gradually build up your strength and cardiovascular endurance. Exercise should be fun and should part of your daily routine. Through the Fit for Survival program, exercise will soon become a daily activity you look forward to. Some of the benefits of exercise include:
• Decreased Fatigue
• Increased range of motion
• Weight loss
• Improved cardiovascular endurance
• Improved functional capacity
• Increased self esteem
• Increased energy During your time with the Fit for Survival program, we want to educate you on the benefits of an active lifestyle and how it may decrease the risk of recurrence. We want give you the tools necessary to maintain an active, cancer free lifestyle once your treatment is completed. Fit for Survival can help you lose weight. While going through chemotherapy and/or radiation many patients experience some level of fatigue that affects daily activity. Losing weight can help increase your energy level.
