Commission On Cancer Survey
Established by the American College of Surgeons, the Commission on Cancer (CoC) is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for cancer patients through standards-setting, prevention, research, education and the monitoring of comprehensive quality care.  The Shaw Center was awarded the esteemed three year accreditation with commendation, the highest level of outcome that can be achieved by the survey.

There are five possible outcomes of the survey: a three year accreditation with commendation; a three year accreditation; a three year accreditation with contingency; accreditation deferred, and non accreditation.  CoC Accreditation is granted only to facilities that have voluntarily committed to providing the best in cancer care and are able to comply with established CoC standards. Each cancer program must undergo a rigorous evaluation and review of its performance and compliance with CoC standards every three years. There are currently more than 1,480 CoC accredited cancer programs. These programs diagnose and treat 80% of newly diagnosed cancer patients annually.

Sonnenalp Breast Imaging Center

The American College of Radiology fully accredits the Sonnenalp Breast Imaging Center.
The FDA has designated the American College of Radiology (ACR) as an accrediting body for both screen-film and full-field digital mammography units. This is the country's oldest and largest accrediting body for mammography.  The ACR requires that  mammography facilities undergo a strict accreditation process to insure equipment, radiologist and technologist meet high standards to deliver high quality mammography services.

The Sonnenalp Breast Center fulfills The Mammography Quality Standard Act
The Mammography Quality Standards Act requires mammography facilities across the nation to meet uniform quality standards. Congress passed this law in 1992 to assure high-quality mammography for early breast cancer detection, which can lead to early treatment, a range of treatment options giving  an increased chance of survival. Under the law, all mammography facilities must: 1) be accredited by an FDA-approved accreditation body, 2) be certified by the  FDA, or it’s State, as meeting the standards, 3) undergo an annual MQSA inspection, and 4) prominently display the certificate issued by the agency.
