State-of-the-art treatment of cancer requires a team approach that allows the development of an optimal approach to the medical aspects of disease while never losing focus on the realities of the patient. At the Shaw Regional Cancer Center we are proud to have a Care Team that includes all facets of cancer care – from our physicians specializing in cancer treatment, to specially trained physical therapists, social workers, exercise physiologists and nutritionists. Because we realize that while cancer doesn’t have to go to work or take the kids to a movie, you still do.
Our Urological Oncology Multidisciplinary Clinic is a prime example of this teamwork translating into the finest care available at any institution, regardless of size. Cases, both new diagnosis and second opinion, are reviewed by our panel of physicians including urologists, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, pathologists and radiologists. Consensus opinions are developed and then discussed with patients in an open and comfortable environment. Family members are encouraged to attend and participate. This format allows each patient the benefit of a number of experienced opinions in one setting, as well as the positive synergy of an experienced team. The suitability of a patient for entry into one of the research trials currently being offered at the Shaw Regional Cancer Center may also be discussed, and appropriate patients have the opportunity to receive some of the newest treatments available anywhere in America.
